You have proposed a North American strategy for energy dominance that would include Canada. As a citizen of that country I am pleased to hear you speak favourably in this post about our oil and gas resources and of Alberta specifically. But I think it would be worth mentioning that Canada has another ace up its sleeve in the energy business.
The ace is nuclear. In addition to the home based Candu design (27 Candu power reactors in seven countries, as well as 17 'Candu derivative' reactors in India according to the World Nuclear Association), Westinghouse, who claim that their technology is used by nearly half the reactors in the world, has been purchased by a consortium of 2 Canadian companies, namely Cameco, our star uranium miner with a 49% interest and Brookfield Renewable Partners with a 51% interest.
Michel, thank you for your comment. I have to admit that I have under appreciated Canada's potential/actual contribution to nuclear (Cameco I am familiar with).
Your posts are valuable and important to me. This week’s is especially good. I’m a big fan. On a personal note….I am old enough to remember when hearing a cogent, articulate opinion different from your own didn’t “trigger” great upset and threats of leaving the country. People were capable of considering two differing thoughts at the same time. It makes the courage of Chris Wright and you even more important.
thank you Martin! I am always very appreciative of your comments and support. I look forward to them. Chris Wright's willingness to speak, agree or disagree with the views (I happen to agree), is one of things I most appreciate about him. You can count on less than one hand the number of public co. CEOs who have taken the stand he is.
Thanks for trying to stick to being nonpartisan Arjun, it makes for trustworthy analysis. I've seen so many people let politics subtly, or not so subtly, influence their investment theses and we usually pay an expensive price for it.
Thank you Investor. Not sure I actually achieved that this week, though my favorable views of Chris Wright are entirely driven by his worldview on energy which near fully aligns with mine...which I would contrast with "liking" him only because he is joining a Republic administration. So hopefully qualifies as "non-partisan" even as I wasn't feeling super non-partisan while recording!
Yes, but you are self-aware and understand that you have a world view, you disclose it upfront, and acknowledge that there are other intelligent points of view that don't necessarily agree. If someone does that, I'm ready to listen to what comes next!
